Spray painter (Pintor)

The certified spray painter shall understand and practise correctly:

• Surface preparation by using various methods (abrasive blasting, high pressure water washing or power wire brushing) to remove grease, dirt and rust and the ability to mark out areas for preparation
• Cleaning, sanding, brushing and burning surfaces in preparation for spraying.
• Mixes materials for proper application.
• The ability to apply protective coatings to manufactured items or structures in situ.
• Can Operates airless and conventional spray machines
• Erects scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging apparatus to gain access to different areas;
• Adjusting equipment to maintain proper application of product
• Maintains painting equipment: hoses, pumps, pressure tanks, spray guns and tips.
• Requisitions materials and supplies from stockroom
• Knowledge of SSPC (Society of Protective Coatings) specifications
• Adheres to company policies, procedures and works drug and alcohol free
• Requisitions materials and supplies from stockroom
• A working knowledge of machinery, materials, processes and practices
• A working knowledge of safety devices necessary for outdoor spray painting including a working knowledge of the hazards to health encountered and the protective devices associated with spray painting
• A general knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of portable and towable air compressors up to 1200cfm
• The ability to work on scaffolding, staging, ladders and within confined spaces
• The ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and maps

Spray painters are required to have a minimum two (2) years practical experience and completed 40 hours of formal training. This must have been obtained through the mining or oil and gas sectors and an industry accredited training facility. Industrial spray painters operate spray-painting equipment to apply protective coatings to manufactured items or structures in situ.
