ABOUT THE POSITION

USAID/Angola is seeking a Communications Specialist to provide communications support for the Mission. The Communications Specialist will assist the incumbent Development Outreach Coordinator (DOC), helping to coordinate all public communications related to the non-health portfolio through social and traditional media, while also assisting with the realization of public events and intra-governmental communications, including to the Embassy Front Office and the USAID Regional Mission in Pretoria. The Communication Specialist will keep abreast of current publications and information on overarching development issues, concerns, and practices, and their programming, in order to advise the Mission on a variety of issues related to the USG’s interests in Angola related to development.

This position is a two (2) year assignment located in Luanda, Angola.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports the Senior Development Outreach Coordination (DOC) in the public dissemination of information related to the non-health portfolio.
- Provides excellent written and oral communication in the production of public-facing documents and media.
- Coordinates with the Public Affairs Section (PAS) in the Embassy as well as the DOC in USAID/Southern Africa.
- Drafts and reviews communication materials such as brochures, articles, fact sheets, project summaries, speeches, press releases, signs, social media posts, and other public relations material. This includes working closely with colleagues and IPs to ensure that all produced materials and USAID-funded commodities meet USAID marking and branding guidelines.
- Supports the successful execution of public events related to the non-health portfolio, including all necessary internal and external communications, ensuring effective coordination with the Embassy Front Office, USAID, and all relevant outside stakeholders.
- Assists with event coverage related to logistics and related technical materials, as well as regular maintenance for internal and external website contents.
- Ensures that projects in the portfolio produce necessary material to support wider outreach efforts, highlighting USAID’s ongoing work and achievements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to obtain USAID Facilities Access Clearance (FAC).
  • Must have advanced or native proficiency in Portuguese.
  • Must have a Bachelors in a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in communications or development field.
  • Prior work experience with U.S. Government agencies or other international organizations is preferred. Direct experience with USAID Missions is highly preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of and experience with complex organizational development, outreach and communications program planning and reporting.
